Crossing another thing off my list…
I woke up today around 10:30 when someone called looking for you-know-who. I ended up sleeping on the couch again because I’m having a hard time sleeping. So, I’ve been falling asleep to the TV lately. Not ideal but it gets me to sleep. Anyways, I sat up and started to think about what I wanted to do. I’m trying to slowly get back into the land of the living… not only from the break-up but also from “The Incident” back in February where I had a gun pulled on me.
Some days are difficult for me to just get out of bed and it’s much easier hiding beneath the blanket and getting yourself immersed into some television. Thank God I don’t watch that white-trash TV and God Bless the Mystery Network for bringing me all my favourite shows on one channel!
But, (wo)man can not live on television alone. Sometimes (s)he must get up and do other things. I thought about what I wanted to do… what I could do today that is different from anything I’ve ever tried before.
I got it!
Today? That meant learnin’ to bake bread!
(Side note: I love that pic of me at the cottage. It’s a very strange facial expression for me. I have no idea what the hell I was thinking but I look quite unamused, perplexed and consternated. )
I’ve had “learn to make naan bread” on my list of 43 things to do. I can’t make that with what I have here so instead, I decided to just make regular bread. It wasn’t on my list but I had 2 blank spots so I added it. It’s my list, I’m allowed
I found a recipe online and just went to it. Was much easier than I thought it would be and the recipe was clear. http://www.robertsplace.ca/recipes/homemadebread.htm
Took about five hours in total from start to finish but only took about 15 minutes of “work”. The rest was just waiting for the mixture to rise and the actual baking of the bread. I can’t believe how tasty it is! I’m very impressed and probably will never buy store bread again unless I’m forced to for some reason!
A special hint though! Make sure your yeast is active

My Bread Adventure! The photo attached includes 3 images... the first on top, is the bread after I put it onto the baking stone... the inset image is a close-up of the bun with the sesame seeds and the bottom is the finished image!
I used a baking stone we had recieved as a Christmas gift… I imagine you could probably use a baking pan but I enjoyed the stone… I’d use a little more flour under it next time though or even corn-meal, the one optional ingredient I did not have! I halved the receipe because I have no need for three loaves of bread being single right now! Next time, I’d make some buns and freeze them so they won’t spoil quickly

Gotta go make a sandwhich with my tasty bread, bon appetit!
I finally got to bed around 12:30 am this morning after only having 3 hours sleep the previous 48 hours. To boot, I was feeling very unwell last night and proceeded to have nightmares and twisted dreams all night long… it was a series of dreams actually, and in one (or two or more, I’m afraid to announce) I had a knock at the door. Of course, in my dream I opened it and who was there?
Back in March, I got this absolute, stunningly brilliant idea to purchase a hamster for my classroom. I worked in the middle of nowhere so on March Break, I bought this little guy and we made the 12 hour journey to the Great White North. He is an awesome little travel companion who didn’t mind my singing, who walked happily on his little treadmill and slept the remainder of the time. We get along well and he promised to not have any late night parties which would keep me awake.
On my list of 43 things to do, becoming a lifeguard is #1. It wasn’t that this is my number one OHMYGAWD it MUST be done item… it just happened to be the first on my list. In fact, if you go to
